The former tax official, Ghalia C., has been sentenced on charges including assisting organized crime and is currently appealing. The investigation showed that she had used her access to confidential tax databases to collect information on potential targets, including cryptocurrency investors, and may have leaked their location and capital gains data. Although there is no evidence that she planned actual attacks against cryptocurrency holders, this case reveals the risk of tax systems becoming sources of data breaches.
