【区块律动】Recent turmoil in the Flow ecosystem warrants attention. The situation is as follows: at the end of December, the Flow network experienced a protocol-level vulnerability, leading to a large amount of FLOW being illegally minted. After the incident, platforms like Huobi quickly activated emergency measures, verifying the situation with the project team while deploying risk control systems to trace suspicious funds, and even restricting assets identified as related to hackers, trying every possible way to prevent stolen assets from continuing to flow into the market.

However, afterwards, the Flow project team made a reversal. They did not sufficiently communicate with exchanges and users, and directly launched a “isolation recovery” plan, forcibly transferring FLOW from addresses on major exchanges including Huobi through protocol permissions, and planned to destroy them by the end of January this year.

Where is the problem? Among the assets forcibly transferred, there are large amounts of FLOW obtained by ordinary users through normal transactions. This raises a fundamental issue: does the project team have the right to unilaterally freeze and destroy users’ legitimate holdings using technical means?

From an industry perspective, this approach indeed has some issues. First, it does not adequately distinguish between illegal minting and normal trading holdings; second, it bypasses users and platforms, directly enforcing through protocol permissions, which somewhat contradicts the decentralization philosophy; third, it sends a warning to the entire ecosystem—if project teams can forcibly transfer assets at any time under the guise of “risk management,” the boundary of user asset security becomes very blurred.

The attitude of exchanges is: we understand risk management, but there must be transparent mechanisms, sufficient communication, and clear compensation plans. Not a one-man show.
