I recently came across an interesting project—GRU Space, a space startup supported by SpaceX, has released a white paper outlining plans to build a flying hotel on the Moon. Reservations are now open. You can book a spot for no more than 1 million USD, and by 2032, when it opens, you can go and stay.
The company is called Galactic Resource Utilization Company (GRU Space), founded only in 2025. The founder, Skyler Chan, graduated from UC Berkeley with a major in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Interestingly, unlike other space startups that focus on how to get to space and transport resources, GRU Space is thinking about "what to do after landing."
In an interview, Chan mentioned that the space industry is currently mainly supported by governments and wealthy individuals, but for long-term development, sustainable commercial demand is necessary. Space tourism is a perfect opportunity. Their idea is quite straightforward—first establish a mature business model on the Moon (which is this flying hotel), and once that’s successful, replicate it on Mars. It’s like bringing the chain store model from Earth into space.
According to the white paper, the first phase will start in 2029, transporting supplies to the lunar surface via commercial lunar landers. If everything goes according to schedule, by 2032, lunar tourism facilities could be operational. If that happens, it would indeed be a disruptive commercial innovation.

Moon Flying Store? I just laughed. Isn't this the space version of Xiaohongshu's product recommendations? Haha

Moon Flying Store? Nah brother, I just want to know if the $1 million deposit can be refunded later...
---
Another space dream and Mars replication, sounds crazy but I fucking like it
---
In 2032... I don't even know if my bag coin will still be around then haha
---
SpaceX endorsement does have some weight, but this thing feels like Theranos, overhyped as hell
---
Wait, a chain hotel on the moon? Truly bringing Web3 into real life
---
$1 million per night or lifetime membership, not clear yet
---
Better to manage hotels on Earth first before talking about the moon, haha

Moon Flight Shop? Haha, okay, let's wait until 2032 to see. It seems like these kinds of projects all like to make promises that don't materialize.
