Deep Tide TechFlow News, February 11 — According to an official disclosure by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), SEC Chair Paul Atkins testified before the U.S. House Financial Services Committee and stated that the U.S. cryptocurrency market urgently needs a federal regulatory framework. Atkins supports Congress passing the CLARITY Act, considering it a milestone legislation for the cryptocurrency market.
Before the legislation is enacted, the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) will establish a transitional mechanism through Project Crypto, considering the development of token classification standards to provide clear regulatory guidance for investors and innovators, and considering exemptions that allow market participants to move and trade on-chain.
Atkins said that under the cryptocurrency working group led by Commissioner Hester Peirce, the SEC has provided more regulatory clarity in the past year than in the previous ten years, but non-partisan market structure legislation is the most powerful future safeguard.
