Starting March 15, mining will be permitted again in Buryatia and the Zabaykalsky Krai. Seasonal restrictions are lifted, and miners will be able to resume operations after the winter break.
During winter, authorities restricted the operation of farms due to high loads on the power grid. With the arrival of warmer months, the ban will be lifted.
In Buryatia, restrictions covered almost the entire territory of the republic. They affected 19 districts and Ulan-Ude. In Zabaykalsky Krai, the list was no less extensive: 14 districts, 14 districts, Chita, the Aghinskoye settlement, and the Gorny ZATO.
The ban was in effect from mid-November 2025 to mid-March 2026. This format was chosen intentionally. During the cold months, electricity consumption sharply increases, and authorities try to reduce the load by limiting energy-intensive activities, including mining.
From March 15, the operation of farms in the specified districts will again be legal. Since Bitcoin remains the most popular cryptocurrency for mining, Russia’s share of the BTC hash rate will grow from this day.
In other regions of the country, a stricter regime is in place. Mining has been completely banned in ten regions from the beginning of 2025 until March 2031. The reason is the same — an expected electricity shortage.
Buryatia and Zabaykalsky Krai are currently maintaining a seasonal model. However, the Ministry of Energy previously announced plans to consider a year-round ban for these territories as well. The issue was discussed at the level of the government commission on electricity development, but a final decision was postponed at that time.
Several deputies also expressed support for a complete ban. Until the changes are adopted, miners will be able to operate in regions outside the winter period. The future of the industry in these regions will depend on the state of the power system and the stance of federal authorities.
