Bumble launches "AI Matchmaker" Dates, bidding farewell to the "swipe to match" era
Phoenix.com Technology News, March 12, according to Bloomberg, in response to users’ growing dating fatigue, the well-known dating app Bumble has officially launched an AI assistant called Dates. The feature is positioned as users’ personal matchmaker, aiming to understand users’ needs through deep conversation and thus break the traditional “swipe-to-match” model.
It is reported that this new feature is supported by an AI model Bee developed independently by Bumble. After users choose to enable it, the AI will collect information through private chats on areas such as values, dating goals, communication styles, and lifestyle habits. When the system identifies two people with a high degree of fit, it will send matching notifications to both parties along with a detailed compatibility summary. Bumble says that the content of conversations with the AI will be kept strictly confidential, users can customize which conversation topics are shareable, and the tool will absolutely not automatically generate conversations or send messages on the user’s behalf.
Company founder and CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd pointed out that current online dating models are shifting from random discovery to precise search, and the role of AI will be similar to “private shopping guidance,” with the goal of eliminating the “emotional friction” between matching and meeting. Currently, the Dates feature will be offered free of charge as a pilot project to a select group of users, and the official disclosed that it may be transformed into a premium paid service in the future. Meanwhile, industry competitors, including Tinder’s parent company Match Group and Grindr, are also intensively deploying AI applications in an effort to reverse the trend of user churn on their platforms.
