The UAE intends to forcibly open the Strait of Hormuz and is willing to engage in combat.
Mars Finance reports that on April 1, according to The Wall Street Journal, Arab officials stated that after suffering an Iranian attack, the UAE is preparing to assist the United States and its allies in opening the Strait of Hormuz by force. This move would make the UAE the first Gulf country to directly engage in military action. Officials said that the UAE is currently lobbying the UN Security Council to pass a resolution authorizing such military operations. An Emirati official revealed that its diplomats have urged the United States as well as major military powers in Europe and Asia to form an alliance to forcibly open the strait through military means. The official added that the Iranian regime believes it is fighting for survival and is willing to drag the global economy down with it by sealing the strait. The official also stated that the UAE is actively evaluating the military roles it could undertake to ensure the security of the strait, including assisting in mine clearance and providing other support services. Additionally, some Arab officials mentioned that this Gulf country has also proposed that the United States occupy relevant islands within the strategic waterway, including Abu Musa Island, which has been controlled by Iran for half a century but over which the UAE claims sovereignty.
