The three major U.S. stock indices open higher across the board, Nike drops over 12%

April 1 — The three major U.S. stock indexes opened higher across the board. The Dow rose 0.7%, the Nasdaq rose 0.72%, and the S&P 500 index rose 0.59%. Nike fell by more than 12%; earlier, the company unexpectedly lowered its sales outlook for the fourth fiscal quarter. Oil stocks generally declined: ConocoPhillips fell by more than 2%, Exxon Mobil fell by more than 2%, and Chevron fell by more than 2%. Gold mining stocks moved higher, with Harmony Gold up more than 5% and Kinross Gold up more than 2%.
