So this Asteroid Shiba token just went absolutely insane last week after Elon Musk responded to a story about a teenager who designed a plush Shiba Inu mascot that ended up flying on SpaceX's Polaris Dawn mission. The girl had passed away from cancer, and her mom shared that she'd wanted to ask Musk some questions. When he replied 'Will answer shortly,' traders moved within minutes.
The meme coin exploded - we're talking 45,000% gains in 24 hours for ASTEROID. Arkham's data showed some wild plays: one trader turned 1 ETH into nearly half a million in just three hours. Another early buyer pocketed over $200k in profit. Even someone who bought at launch in September 2024 and held through everything is now sitting on roughly $370k from a $21k investment.
But here's the thing - that kind of move always comes with serious risk. The price has already cooled significantly since the peak, now trading way lower with only modest gains in the last 24 hours. When profits are concentrated in a few wallets and liquidity is thin like it always is with these low-cap meme coins, any profit-taking can trigger a sharp selloff. The crypto market waits to see if Musk's actual response to Perrotto's questions keeps the momentum alive or if this becomes another forgotten news cycle.
