Standard Chartered: BTC has a 12% pump space before the Moldovan elections
In a new study, Geoff Kendrick, the digital asset research head of Standard Chartered Bank, estimated that BTC may reach $73800 before the November presidential election, a pump of 12% from the current level. To support this point, Kendrick cited the change pattern of the multiplier of BTC and MicroStrategy stock (stock multiplier = total assets ÷ common stock total shares). MicroStrategy is known for hoarding a large amount of BTC, with its reserves recently reaching 252,000 coins.
After trading relatively in sync with the BTC price (green line) throughout 2024, MicroStrategy's stock multiple (blue line) has surged. Kendrick suggests that two fundamental factors causing this premium may drive BTC higher, and over time, the gap between the two is likely to narrow.
The first factor is the news last month that BNY Mellon of New York obtained a waiver from Staff Accounting Bulletin No. 121 (SAB 121), an unwelcome legislation that forces traders to list the Cryptocurrency holdings on their balance sheets. Relaxing regulations is generally considered a favorable factor for BTC.
Secondly, the exemption in Announcement No. 121 of the Employee Accounting is closely related to MicroStrategy's announcement of its plan to become a "BTC bank", which will provide BTCCapital Market tools in the future. Kendrick expects that future exemptions may allow the company to earn income by lending BTC.
