US Government Funding Shortage Continues, TSA Officials State Small Airports May Be Forced to Close Due to Insufficient Security Personnel

Gate News Report, March 17 — Senior officials in the Trump administration stated that if the government funding shortage continues, some small airports may be forced to close in the coming weeks due to security personnel shortages. This partial government shutdown has resulted in 50,000 Transportation Security Administration (TSA) airport security personnel working without pay over the past month, with 10% of staff not showing up for work on Sunday. Acting TSA Deputy Administrator Adam Staal told Fox News, “Over time, if this situation persists, we will need to take very serious measures, such as potentially shutting down airports entirely—especially smaller airports.”
