Gate News reports that on March 27, a16z crypto partner Guy Wuollet stated that the crypto industry is entering the “collared shirt” era. This metaphor implies that the crypto industry is maturing in various aspects, although it has not yet reached the fully institutionalized “suit and tie” stage, it has moved away from the early informal grassroots state, transitioning from “mom’s basement” to mainstream business society. He pointed out that the current trend includes traditional financial institutions like BlackRock and Fidelity offering Bitcoin through ETFs, as well as an embrace of blockchain technologies such as stablecoins and tokenized equity. Wuollet emphasized that the combination of blockchain and AI will lay the groundwork for crypto-driven agentic commerce. In this scenario, AI agents used by developers and consumers will utilize blockchain’s tamper-proof, always-on payment rails to process various online transactions, particularly in the micropayment space. Wuollet believes the first agentic payments will occur on-chain.
