Conversations between Washington and Brussels about intensifying sanctions against Russia are still underway, according to sources from the European Union. Meanwhile, Cyprus and Malta have raised concerns—they're warning that dismantling the G7's oil price cap mechanism could end up pushing maritime trade activity outside EU waters.

Sigh, it's the same old sanctions game again. Is it really effective or not?

This is a typical case of "incentive compatibility" failure. The US and Europe want to present a united front externally, but small countries hold key positions... Historically, Iran sanctions also worked this way. In the end, trade bypassing the mechanisms becomes even harder to regulate.

Nah, this is the same old story. Cyprus and Malta will just hide behind and argue.

Once this oil price cap is dismantled, maritime shipping will have to reroute, and EU members will end up losing out themselves.

Coming back with this set again? The US and Europe are arguing every day about sanctions on Russia, but as soon as Cyprus and Malta get involved, the business actually moves outside the EU haha

They're starting to sanction Russia again, isn't this routine getting old...

Hmm... Once again the same old sanctions rhetoric. Cyprus and Malta have hit the nail on the head this time.
