Now, a report from the newspaper O Globo revealed that this outside-of-politics activity includes defending former partners of Glaidson Acácio dos Santos, the “Bitcoin Pharaoh.”

Glaidson is identified by the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) as the leader of a billion-dollar pyramid scheme involving cryptocurrencies, operated through GAS Consulting, which reportedly moved about R$ 38 billion over the years.

The newspaper investigated Flávio’s activities after he purchased, for R$ 5.97 million, a house in Lago Sul, an upscale area of Brasília where his law firm is registered. Upon securing the bank financing, which has since been paid off, he declared that his income as a lawyer and businessman was incorporated into the Senate’s R$ 44,000 salary, justifying his financial capacity for the business.

A significant part of his legal work focuses on the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), where the senator has signed petitions in at least ten cases. The most recent case is a habeas corpus filed to request the dismissal of the criminal action against two of Glaidson’s former partners, who were detained in 2021 during Operation Kriptos.

Both were indicted by the MPF for crimes against the financial system, fraudulent management, and organized crime. In the appeal, lawyer Bruno Gavioli Lopes, who works alongside Flávio, also requested the suspension of hearings until the possibility of dismissing the case was reviewed by the Court.

However, the request was rejected. One month after the filing, Minister Messod Azulay Neto, appointed to the STJ by then-President Jair Bolsonaro in 2022, denied the habeas corpus based on a statement from the MPF.

According to the judge, there was no demonstration of “any manifest illegality or illegal constraint capable of justifying, exceptionally, the dismissal of the criminal action.” The decision maintains the process involving Glaidson’s former partners.

The publication also highlights other activities of Flávio, such as defending four military police officers accused of murdering four men in an ambush in Vidigal favela, in the South Zone of Rio, in 2020, as well as acting as a partner in Bravo Graphene, a company founded in 2024 that sells helmets and visors.

In a statement sent to Globo, the senator stated that the R$ 5.97 million house purchase was made with funds from his income as a “parliamentarian, lawyer, and businessman,” and added that the real estate operation was investigated without irregularities being found.
