Almasane Alkobra Mining Company (AMAK) has announced a substantial mineral discovery in the Najran Region of Saudi Arabia, identifying a significant ore deposit containing copper, zinc, gold, and silver. The find marks an important milestone for the country’s expanding mining sector.

The Scale of the Discovery

The newly identified deposit stems from exploration activities at a site licensed to AMAK in September 2024. Since February 2025, intensive drilling operations have penetrated more than 27,000 meters into the earth—yet this effort represents less than 10% of the total licensed exploration area. According to preliminary internal assessments, the deposit contains approximately 11 million tonnes of ore bearing the four primary metals.

This preliminary figure carries particular significance because the exploration campaign is still in its early stages. With over 90% of the licensed area yet to be drilled, there exists considerable potential for the resource estimates to expand as investigations deepen.

Strategic Advantages and Industry Implications

The Najran discovery benefits from a favorable geographic position relative to AMAK’s existing processing infrastructure. Situated approximately 100 kilometers from the company’s current facility, the proximity could substantially accelerate project development timelines and reduce capital expenditure on new infrastructure.

The find underscores the Najran Region’s emergence as a critical mineral resource center within Saudi Arabia. As global demand for copper, zinc, gold, and silver remains robust—driven by demand across electronics manufacturing, renewable energy infrastructure, and industrial applications—discoveries of this scale strengthen the country’s position in the global commodities market.

What’s Next

The early-stage nature of the discovery leaves multiple pathways for expansion. Continued drilling will provide clearer definition of the ore body’s boundaries and grade characteristics, potentially revealing a significantly larger resource base than currently estimated.
