U.S. stocks opened mixed on Friday. After the Christmas holiday, traders returned to the market, and the three major indices showed divergence.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 9.76 points, a decline of 0.02%, to 48,721.40; the Nasdaq Composite rose 24.20 points, an increase of 0.10%, to 23,637.51; the S&P 500 increased by 6.12 points, a gain of 0.09%, to 6,938.17.
Despite mixed performance during the session, the main stock indices are still expected to record overall gains for the week.
