Some time ago, I bought some precious metals in Singapore for investment and collection, through a well-known precious metals custody platform. Recently, they sent an email saying that withdrawals have been temporarily suspended due to overwhelming demand, and the queue is too long to handle😂

This platform has a unique feature: users do not withdraw immediately after purchase but instead keep their assets there for long-term custody. Over the past two weeks, the surge in withdrawal requests has indeed been quite outrageous, which I suspect is influenced by rumors in the international precious metals market.

From a macro perspective, this reflects an interesting phenomenon: when the market experiences liquidity concerns, retail investors' panic can quickly spread to physical assets. As a traditional safe-haven tool, precious metals are prone to run-on effects once withdrawal difficulties are signaled. This is quite similar to liquidity risks in crypto assets — both test the platform's risk control and the sufficiency of physical assets or reserves during critical moments. It is worth paying attention to whether this panic will spread to other asset classes.

Haha, this is the so-called "Don't come to the提" notice, a subtle way for the platform to say it? To be honest, custodial systems are indeed prone to issues. Once there is any sign of trouble, everyone runs collectively, and the rush for precious metals is no different from bank runs. This wave truly confirms that liquidity anxiety is contagious, spreading from financial markets to physical assets, completing a perfect logical loop. Now I am reminded of the Luna situation back then; the importance of platform risk control is truly a painful lesson.

Well, this is the classic bank run effect. Once it spreads from one to ten, and then to a hundred, people's confidence wanes, and it's hard to lead the team effectively.

ngl the exact same thing happened in '22 with crypto exchanges... when people start fleeing, it's never just one asset class. watch your collateral ratios closely, this contagion spreads fast.

Isn't this just a replica of FTX in the crypto world, just with a different appearance?

Isn't this just a precious metals version of a bank run? It looks a bit unsettling.

Haha, isn't this just the same as Luna back in the day? Repackaged and continuing the cycle
