According to the latest statistics, the global number of cryptocurrency holders has exceeded 320 million. However, these holders are not evenly distributed—there are significant differences across continents.

In terms of usage rate, Oceania ranks first. This region has 4.4 million users for every 1 million holders, with a usage rate of 2.27%, far ahead of other regions. This is not surprising—Australia and New Zealand, as developed economies, have well-established financial infrastructure, and residents are relatively more receptive to new assets. Coupled with a smaller population base, this makes the proportion particularly prominent.

North America follows closely, with 100 million holders and a population of 590 million, resulting in a usage rate of approximately 1.69%. It is one of the birthplaces of cryptocurrency, with a mature fintech ecosystem and numerous institutional investors, naturally making it the second-largest hub for crypto assets globally.

Interestingly, South America performs well. With 27 million holders and a population of 430 million, the usage rate reaches 0.63%, actually surpassing Europe. Why? Economic instability and high inflation pressures lead many to see cryptocurrencies as a tool for hedging risks and protecting wealth. This practical demand drives adoption. In comparison, Europe has 43 million holders and a population of 740 million, with a usage rate of only 0.58%, ranking lower.

Africa has a large number of holders—53 million—yet with a population of 1.4 billion, the usage rate is only 0.38%.

The data for Asia is the most striking: 130 million holders may seem large, but with a population of 4.7 billion, the usage rate is only 0.28%, ranking at the bottom globally. This does not mean Asia is unimportant; rather, it indicates there is enormous potential for growth. Emerging markets, young populations, widespread mobile payments—all these factors point in one direction: Asia’s future crypto adoption curve could be the steepest.
