I get annoyed when I see this kind of comparison question. ZEC's optional privacy is purely to save face for regulators; the distribution of chips clearly shows it's a scheme by institutional market makers, a typical leek mentality—thinking that compliance alone can get you on board [laughs and cry]. Although XMR is somewhat obsessive, at least its logic is consistent, and the form has been established—that's the difference.

XMR, no fussing, privacy enabled by default is just great. ZEC's optional privacy features are basically just to pass regulations... which real users would manually enable?

Honestly, the XMR approach of always turning on privacy is indeed more pure, but ZEC's choice system also makes sense... I'm just worried that in the end, they'll all be shut down by regulations haha
