PANews January 9 News, according to Decrypt, due to the ongoing spread of anti-government protests, Iranian authorities have implemented nationwide internet shutdown measures. Cloudflare data shows that since 18:45 UTC (22:15 local time), Iran’s internet traffic has “almost completely dropped to zero.” The protests are triggered by high inflation, currency collapse, and livelihood pressures, which have recently escalated further following calls for large-scale demonstrations by the exiled crown prince. It is currently unclear whether satellite internet services like SpaceX’s Starlink are available in Iran. NetBlocks describes this as a “nationwide digital blockade,” which will severely restrict the dissemination of protest footage.
