Decentralized storage has long been a competitive track with many players. Filecoin ensures data security through full replication mode, Arweave offers permanent storage, and both have established their footholds in the market. But Walrus is different; it doesn't compete head-to-head but instead finds its own niche.

What appears to be a simple differentiation strategy is actually backed by very precise technical design. Walrus mainly focuses on large binary file storage, targeting heavyweight data such as AI datasets and game assets. It adopts Red Stuff erasure coding technology, keeping the replication factor between 4 and 5 times. How important is this number? Filecoin's full replication mode means data must be fully stored on multiple nodes, which is extremely costly, with bandwidth consumption soaring as well. Many small and medium-sized enterprises and developers simply can't afford it.

Walrus's design is different. It guarantees data reliability while significantly reducing storage costs and bandwidth burdens, making large-scale data storage much more cost-effective.

From the perspective of data recovery capabilities, Filecoin relies on the availability of replicated nodes. This approach has a hidden risk—if node availability is unstable, the recovery process can easily get stuck. Walrus uses erasure coding, so as long as some nodes are alive, data can be reconstructed, offering better fault tolerance and faster recovery. Simply put, for the same level of data security, Walrus achieves it with less storage overhead. This perfectly aligns with the data storage needs of the AI era.

The selling points sound good, but the key is whether the ecosystem can keep up, as that's where the victory or defeat will be decided.

To be honest, Walrus's approach is indeed clever. Instead of engaging in a costly battle with Filecoin, it focuses on the demand for AI and gaming. A 4 to 5 times replication factor versus full replication—just how much savings does that difference amount to?

4 to 5 times? Filecoin's costs are indeed outrageous, no wonder so many people are turning to Walrus

Wow, the cost difference is indeed outrageous. No wonder so many people are discouraged by Filecoin's price.

Remember, those who have been hit by Filecoin understand the significance of cost differences the most. This time, the idea behind Walrus is actually a rational awakening after crossing the cycle; low cost and high efficiency are the core to survival. Opportunities lie in niche tracks; don't always try to hard confront directly, as that leads to the fastest losses. The law of conservation of energy also applies in Web3; behind seemingly simple optimizations are people who are thinking. The AI era is coming; those who plan storage in advance will soon understand what value return really means. Honestly, this kind of scheme design is much more reliable than projects that just pile up parameters. The bottom range is brewing the next wave of opportunities; building the right mindset is what makes a winner.
