Elon Musk recently reposted a warning on Twitter about Taiwan's population trends, drawing widespread attention. According to the latest household registration data released by the Ministry of the Interior, Taiwan's total population is 23,306,085, a decrease of 96,710 from the same period last year. In November, there were only 7,946 newborns, setting a new record low, while the death toll for the same month reached 14,771—less than half the number of newborns.

Population Continues to Shrink, Aging Crisis Looms

Data from Taiwan's birth statistics show that the population has been in negative growth for 23 consecutive months. Behind these astonishing figures reflects Taiwan's deepening population crisis. Even more concerning is that the population aged 65 and above now accounts for 19.99%, just one step away from the World Health Organization's definition of a super-aged society (20%).

This means Taiwan is not only facing a declining birth rate but is also rapidly moving into a super-aged society. The severe imbalance in the population structure will have long-term impacts on the economy, healthcare, social security, and other sectors.

Musk Speaks Out: Population Collapse Accelerates

DogeDesigner, the designer of the Dogecoin Foundation, posted a video containing the Republic of China's flag on Twitter, pointing out that Taiwan's fertility rate has ranked among the lowest in the world, emphasizing: “Without new human births, civilization cannot continue.” The video received 1.5 million views on Twitter.

Musk immediately reposted with the comment: “Population collapse continues to accelerate.” This statement quickly garnered millions of views and attracted global attention. As a highly influential figure in the tech industry, Musk's voice further brings Taiwan's population issue into the international spotlight and once again highlights the severity of the declining birthrate worldwide.

Data Speaks: The Imbalance Between Births and Deaths

A detailed comparison of Taiwan's birth statistics reveals that the current population dynamics are clearly out of balance. The stark difference between the number of newborns and deaths in November not only indicates further population decline but also hints at profound social structural changes. If this trend continues, Taiwan will face a series of chain problems such as labor shortages and increased social welfare burdens.
