Panama Cargo Ship Rescues Dozens of Migrants in Sea Tragedy off Crete

A maritime disaster occurred on Saturday morning in the waters south of Crete when a passenger boat carrying around 50 migrants suddenly sank due to extreme sea conditions. According to reports from RTHK, the sinking resulted in at least five deaths and more than 20 others still missing. In this emergency, a Panama-flagged cargo ship in the area responded quickly and managed to rescue 20 individuals from the water.

Extreme Sea Conditions as the Main Cause

This tragic event happened under very dangerous weather conditions. When rescue ships approached the distressed boat, strong winds reached force 6 with waves about 2.5 meters high. As many passengers moved to one side in an attempt to get closer to the rescue vessel, the boat lost balance and eventually capsized.
