AI Unicorn Manus Founder Banned from Leaving the Country

Goldman Sachs reports that, according to the Financial Times of the UK on March 25, Manus CEO Xiao Hong and Chief Scientist Ji Yichao were summoned to Beijing for a meeting this month. After the meeting, they were told that due to regulatory review requirements, they are not allowed to leave China but can still move freely within the country.
Previously, officials from China’s National Development and Reform Commission had convened meetings with executives from Meta and Manus to express concerns about the transaction announced in December last year. No formal investigation has been initiated, nor have any charges been filed. Manus is actively seeking assistance from law firms and consulting companies to resolve the issue.
