Toyota's comprehensive strategy: the resolve to retain internal combustion engines
On December 5, 2025, at Woven City, the technology validation city located in Susono, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, Toyota demonstrated its determination.
Toyota unveiled three ultra-luxury sports cars it plans to bring to market. The “GR GT,” scheduled to launch around 2027, will be the first mass-market vehicle to be equipped with a 4-liter V8 engine.
The hybrid (HV) “Prius” has an engine displacement of 1.8 to 2.0 liters. Against the backdrop of increasingly strict environmental regulations, the car instead introduces a large-displacement engine. As a mass-market vehicle, it will achieve world-class standards and has been positioned as the pinnacle of sports cars.

The Nikkei Inc. and the Financial Times merged into the same media group in November 2015.
