Just realized a lot of people are struggling with updating their SASSA details, especially if you're on the SRD grant. So here's what I learned after dealing with this myself.
If you're getting the permanent grants (old age, disability, child support), you basically have to go to the office in person. They won't let you do it online, which is annoying but whatever. You need your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement or letter from your bank), and you fill out their form. Takes up to 21 days to process, so plan ahead.
But the SRD grant is different—that one's actually online, which is way easier. You go to their portal, enter your ID, they send you a link via SMS, and you update your banking details there. Pretty straightforward if the website doesn't crash on you.
Now for the phone number change, especially if you're on SRD, this is important because it's tied to your verification and payment notifications. You can update your cell phone number through their contact portal—same deal, enter your ID and application number, put in your new number, they send you an OTP to confirm. Changing your SRD cell phone number this way is usually quicker than the banking stuff.
Honestly though, if you're having issues with the online stuff or just want to be safe, just call them at 0800 60 10 or visit an office. There's apparently a lot of fake websites out there trying to scam people, so stick with the official SASSA channels. Not worth the risk trying to save time.
Have you updated your details recently? Did you run into any issues?
