Mars Finance News: On April 7, the British newspaper The Times, citing a diplomatic memo, reported that Iran’s incumbent Supreme Leader, Mujtaba Khamenei, is reportedly no longer able to carry out his duties and is currently receiving medical treatment in the holy city of Qom. The report says Mujtaba’s injuries are severe; he is in a coma and is undergoing treatment for his “serious” health condition, which means he is unable to take part in any decisions of the regime. The memo obtained by The Times is the first to reveal the location of this Supreme Leader. Qom, a central city located 87 miles south of Tehran, is regarded as a holy site in Shia Islam. Although U.S. and Israeli intelligence agencies had previously claimed they were tracking his movements, with the deadline for the ultimatum set by Trump drawing near, if Iran’s senior leadership were in a power vacuum, it would undoubtedly add significant uncertainty to the current turmoil in the Persian Gulf.
