Recently, someone asked me again whether PFP is a "membership card" or an "avatar skin." It sounds like the kind of "promise of the future" found in the white paper of an ICO back in the day... Frankly, there might be long-term value, but it depends on the community continuously telling stories and delivering small benefits. Otherwise, once attention shifts, all that's left is a picture. Currently, various on-chain data tools and tagging systems are still criticized for being laggy or even misleading, so I’m even less willing to draw conclusions just from dashboards. When things are lively, everyone seems smart.

Anyway, when I choose projects, I look at whether people are willing to spend time talking to others and whether they treat "members" as people rather than just wallets.
What I fear most is not missing out on opportunities, but that the next collective narrative starts, and I haven't understood what everyone is excited about.
