Just realized a lot of people are confused about updating their SASSA grant details, especially the SRD one. Here's what actually works.

So if you're on the SRD R370 grant and need to change your bank account, the good news is it's all online. You don't need to go anywhere. Just hit the official SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they'll send you a link via SMS. Click it, add your new bank details, and you're done. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for the bank to verify, but at least it's straightforward. One thing though - the account has to be in YOUR name, not someone else's. SASSA won't touch joint accounts or anything like that.

For the old permanent grants (old age, disability, child grants), it's a whole different story. You actually have to go to a SASSA office in person. Bring your ID, proof of the new bank account (like a recent bank statement), fill out their form, and wait up to 21 working days. Pain, but that's how it is.

Also, watch out for fake SASSA websites trying to get your info. Only use the official links. And if you're changing your phone number for SRD, same deal - do it through their contact portal with the OTP verification. If the online stuff doesn't work, just call them at 0800 60 10 or visit an office.

Basically, SRD beneficiaries have it easier when it comes to updating bank accounts. Everyone else, prepare yourself for the office visit.
