So you've heard the term 'hopium' in the crypto community? Let me explain, because it's a term that often appears in forums and Discord.
Hopium is a blend of the words 'hope' and 'opium'. The concept is simple—it's excessive hope or optimism that isn't based on facts. In online communities, hopium is a term used to mock people who have overly high or unrealistic expectations.
So what's the difference between hopium and copium? Well, they are often confused. Copium leans more toward a coping mechanism or how people 'cover up' harsh realities. Meanwhile, hopium is more about the empty hope itself. So if you're on copium, it means you're trying to make yourself feel better by lying. But if you're on hopium, it means you literally believe in something that has no logical basis.
In the crypto world, hopium is a very familiar term. For example, there are investors who still believe a dead coin will moon, or hold assets that have dropped 90% because they believe it will rebound. Those are classic examples of hopium. They are blinded by hope, refusing to accept reality.
This term has a negative connotation because it’s used to mock. But honestly, hopium is part of crypto culture. People often share hopium as a joke or as a way to keep themselves motivated in a brutal market.
If you see someone posting 'Wen BTC 100k? #Hopium', they are basically admitting that their hope might not have a solid foundation, but they remain hopeful. It’s how the crypto community deals with market volatility and uncertainty.
