U.S. Treasury seeks access to Mythos model under Anthropic to identify system vulnerabilities
ME News, on April 14 (UTC+8), an informed source said that the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s technical team is seeking access to Anthropic’s Mythos artificial intelligence model in order to begin searching for system vulnerabilities. The source said the goal of U.S. Treasury Chief Information Officer Sam Cocos is to obtain access to the model as soon as possible (at the earliest, potentially by this week). The source said Anthropic has only made the model available to a limited number of institutions. The source added that Cocos introduced the technology to the Treasury’s cybersecurity team last week and instructed them to prepare for the final threats that powerful AI systems could pose. U.S. Treasury Secretary Bezener and Federal Reserve Chair Powell convened an emergency meeting with Wall Street leaders last week, concerned that the Mythos model could usher in an era with higher cyber risk. Anthropic has issued a warning that if companies do not test their own systems and build defenses before broad deployment, the model may have the capability to support cyberattacks.
