Walrus is a new kind of decentralized storage network that lives on the Sui blockchain and helps people and developers store big files and data in a way that does not depend on one central company or server instead the system breaks each file into many small pieces using advanced coding so the pieces spread out across lots of computers called storage nodes and even if many of these nodes go offline the original data can still be put back together because of the way the coding works this method makes storing large things like videos images and datasets much cheaper and more reliable than older systems and means apps and websites can trust the data is there when they need it while letting them build new kinds of logic around stored data because each file becomes a programmable on‑chain object on Sui which smart contracts can use and manage like any other asset on the blockchain
