Among the many infrastructure projects in the Sui ecosystem, what makes Walrus stand out? Simply put, it’s a dual approach of technological innovation and talent development.

Let’s first look at the people. Walrus is a proud creation of Mysten Labs, the builder of the Sui public chain. The core team’s composition is quite impressive. Most of these experts come from Meta’s early Diem blockchain project, gathering seasoned engineers from top tech companies like Apple and Oracle, as well as leading academic researchers. In other words, they possess both the systemic design capabilities cultivated in large corporations and a deep understanding of native blockchain development.

CEO Evan Cheng’s background speaks volumes—over 20 years immersed in software infrastructure, focusing on programming languages and system performance optimization, leading the architecture of several large-scale distributed systems. CTO Sam Blackshear is even more exceptional; as a co-creator of the Move smart contract language, he directly ties Walrus and Sui projects together at the technical level, ensuring underlying compatibility. Additionally, the team includes numerous PhD researchers from Harvard and Stanford, with expertise in distributed storage, cryptography, and consensus algorithms.

This combination of talent and innovation naturally builds a strong moat.

The talent team is indeed strong; projects coming out of Mysten Labs are truly exceptional.

A talented team can indeed be impressive, but I'm more concerned about... how long can this moat last? The Diem project also had many talented people, but what about now? The risk of technical binding is actually a hidden danger. If something goes wrong with the Sui ecosystem, how low will Walrus's liquidation price be?

Wow, did the Diem team all go to Walrus? Looking at it, there really is something there.

No matter how impressive the on-paper resume is, it ultimately depends on the on-chain fund flow. Mysten's team indeed has a strong background, but where did the funds from those early Walrus addresses go?

Wow, those Diem folks directly parachuted into the Sui ecosystem? This setup is indeed a bit outrageous, no wonder they can crush other infrastructure projects.

I think these people do have some skills, but truly being able to implement them is the real key.

To be honest, Mysten Labs's talent allocation this time is indeed quite aggressive. The Diem team has now joined the Sui ecosystem, and this moat is not an ordinary one.

Mysten Labs is really competitive, but can Walrus really beat the old-fashioned IPFS system...
