Walrus Protocol has recently attracted attention in the Sui ecosystem. As a storage solution, it breaks the traditional storage cost dilemma using RedStuff 2D erasure coding technology.

This technology is quite interesting—traditional storage requires 25x redundancy backups to ensure data security, while Walrus only needs 4 to 5x to achieve the same level of security, directly cutting costs by 80%. Moreover, data recovery is much faster; a single slice can fully restore the data, and bandwidth usage is also reduced. For applications sensitive to storage costs, this optimization is quite attractive.

From a tokenomics perspective, the distribution model of WAL is also quite appealing. The project team allocates 60% of the tokens to the community, with a low threshold—staking 5 WAL tokens allows participation in airdrops. Even more conveniently, users can delegate directly to node operators, avoiding the need to maintain infrastructure themselves and earning storage revenue shares. This significantly lowers the barrier for ordinary participants.

Currently, Walrus is promoting ecosystem engagement through some incentive activities. The potential gains for early participants are worth paying attention to. If you're interested in storage solutions within the Sui ecosystem, now is a good time to learn more.

Eighty percent cost reduction? That number sounds a bit suspicious. Is traditional 25x redundancy really that outrageous? Staking 5 tokens to participate is low threshold, but I'm worried it might be another scam to harvest users' gains. The Sui ecosystem storage definitely needs a solution, but it depends on the actual application data later on.

ngl the erasure coding math checks out but... hasn't every storage project claimed revolutionary cost cuts? back in my mining days we heard the same promises about hardware efficiency lmao. that said 80% reduction isn't something to sleep on, if the tech actually holds up under mainnet stress. curious whether the bandwidth claims are real or just whitepaper fantasy tho

ngl the erasure code alchemy here is lowkey genius... 80% cost slash? that's the kind of transmutation you can't ignore fr

ngl the 80% cost reduction is wild, but let me break this down for my students—erasure coding isn't exactly new, Walrus just packaged it better 🤔

Wow, an 80% reduction in costs? This data is a bit outrageous, is it real or fake? Airdrops with just 5 coins, the threshold is indeed extremely low. Sui's storage solution this time has some potential, but it depends on whether the subsequent nodes are stable. I'm just worried it might be another PPT project, let's wait and see.

Eighty percent cost cut, 25 times to 5 times, these numbers sound a bit aggressive. Is Sui about to have an ecosystem explosion? --- Staking 5 WAL to participate— is the threshold really that low? Feels like there might be a catch later. --- I don't quite understand RedStuff erasure coding technology, but it sounds like it saves money and bandwidth. How far this logic can go is uncertain. --- Allocating 60% to the community— this tactic is now everywhere. The key is how it will be maintained in the future. --- Compared to technical details, I'm more concerned about when the token will be listed on exchanges. Those who participate too early are just the early fish. --- Delegating to node operators to earn passively sounds great, but who knows how much the actual returns will be. --- Another storage solution in the Sui ecosystem— there are plenty of projects like this. Why can Walrus break through? --- Fast data recovery is good, but whether Web3 storage is really needed remains a question. --- Every project claims that early participants have large profit potential, but in the end, it's still the team and early whales who make the money.
