Deep Tide TechFlow News, on March 1st, according to Hong Kong Commercial Daily, Hong Kong police announced that in 2025, they received a total of 12,505 online shopping scam cases, an increase of 8.2%. The largest single loss involved cryptocurrency transactions, where a victim joined a Telegram cryptocurrency trading group and was deceived by a fake Bittwatt (BWT) customer service to reveal the verification code, resulting in their Telegram account being hijacked and all connected cryptocurrency wallet assets being transferred out, with losses exceeding HKD 3.7 million. The police remind users to contact customer service through official channels when trading cryptocurrencies, never disclose verification codes to others, carefully verify transaction details before payment, and use the “Fraud Prevention Scanner” to assess scam risks.
