Although the U.S. Department of Defense has listed Anthropic as a supply chain risk enterprise, Microsoft continues to assure customers that Anthropic's Claude AI will remain available through its products. Anthropic is contesting this designation, which restricts the Pentagon and its contractors from using Claude for defense-related work. Microsoft stated that its legal review confirms that non-defense customers can still access Claude via platforms like M365 and GitHub, consistent with clarification from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei that this restriction applies only to contracts directly with the Department of Defense.
