Nine sitting members of the U.S. Senate have announced they will not seek re-election. Five politicians from the Republican Party previously actively supported legislation on digital assets. Meanwhile, four Democratic representatives consistently opposed initiatives for the industry. In turn, the views of their successors will become decisive. It is the new candidates who will determine the prospects for the adoption of future regulations by the updated Congress.


Politicians' departure shifts the balance of power
The issue of industry oversight is becoming increasingly politicized. Lobbyist spending has noticeably shifted toward Republicans. This realignment is already yielding tangible results.
The historic passage of the GENIUS Act was largely due to Republican dominance in both chambers. However, upcoming primaries could radically change the political landscape by the end of 2026. The significance of these changes grows amid the mass departure of current senators.
