Russia reaffirms its commitment to defending Venezuelan sovereignty
Moscow has intensified its diplomatic support for Caracas through high-level official talks. In early January, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held direct contacts with Venezuela’s Vice President and Minister of Petroleum, Delcy Rodríguez, according to Golden Ten Data. During this exchange, Lavrov firmly conveyed that Russia remains unwavering in its commitment to defend Venezuela’s interests and sovereignty against external pressures.
Moscow’s Position on the Venezuelan Crisis
Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs publicly stated that defending Venezuela is a strategic principle for Moscow. In response to what it called armed aggression, Russia expressed unwavering solidarity with the Venezuelan people, reaffirming its readiness to continue supporting Caracas in safeguarding its national autonomy. This stance reflects the depth of bilateral relations amid geopolitical tensions.
Diplomatic Approach for Regional Stability
Both parties agreed to avoid any further escalation of the conflict, favoring negotiated solutions over confrontation options. The officials reiterated their shared vision to further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and Venezuela, thus building an alliance that goes beyond economic and energy considerations. This emphasis on bilateral cooperation suggests a joint strategy focused on regional stability through diplomatic dialogue.
