TechNews March 16 — Due to the ongoing sharp increase in global semiconductor and storage costs, vivo and OPPO have recently announced price hikes, with their subsidiaries iQOO and OnePlus following suit.

vivo’s official website released a statement titled “Notice on Adjustments to the Suggested Retail Prices of Some vivo and iQOO Products,” stating that after careful evaluation, we will adjust the suggested retail prices of some products starting from 10:00 on March 18, 2026. The specific models and prices will be displayed on official product detail pages.

Prior to this, OPPO announced a price adjustment on its official store on March 10, citing rising costs of key mobile components, including high-speed storage hardware. After careful assessment, we have decided that starting from 00:00 on March 16, 2026, OPPO will adjust the prices of some already released products.

The products affected by the price adjustments include the OPPO A series, K series, and OnePlus, excluding the OPPO Find series, Reno series, and OPPO Pad series.

In response, well-known leakster @DigitalChatStation commented that, following this wave of memory price hikes, both blue and green brands have confirmed price increases for their released phones. This year’s pricing logic for smartphones has completely collapsed. Older models generally increased by 500 yuan, and new models are being passively upgraded without new releases. Starting prices are generally around 3,000 yuan, leading to a major reshuffle in product lineup:

2.5K — Snapdragon 8sG4 / Dimensity 9500s

3K — Snapdragon 8E

3.5K — Dimensity 9500

4K+ — Snapdragon 8EG5

“Times have changed. This year, the early buyers enjoy the best deals, late buyers might see no discounts, and waiting could even make the phones more expensive. It’s absurd,” the blogger said.

In response to questions from netizens about whether competitors’ models, which are generally increasing by 500 yuan, and whether the K90 will follow suit, Xiaomi Group President Lu Weibing responded promptly. He expressed full understanding of competitors’ decisions, admitted that the industry situation is indeed tough, and that Xiaomi is currently “suffering greatly” in this fight.
