Our country has launched a new round of agricultural climate resource survey and zoning nationwide.

Today, reporters learned from the China Meteorological Administration that in the next four years, a comprehensive survey and zoning of five major categories and 25 types of crops will be promoted nationwide to clarify the agricultural climate resource foundation, scientifically assess agricultural planting boundaries and meteorological disaster risks, and provide technical support for optimizing industrial layout and agricultural structure adjustments for governments at all levels and relevant departments, as well as provide scientific basis for agricultural disaster prevention and mitigation and risk avoidance. The Central Document No. 1 in 2026 clearly requires the implementation of a survey and zoning of agricultural climate resources. The new round of national agricultural climate resource surveys and zoning will be conducted across all provinces (autonomous regions, and municipalities), cities, and counties nationwide. The survey content includes agricultural climate resource surveys and agricultural production investigations, with agricultural climate zoning divided into national, provincial, municipal, and county-level comprehensive agricultural climate zoning, cropping system climate zoning, animal husbandry climate zoning, fishery climate zoning, facility agriculture climate zoning, as well as climate zoning for 25 major crops. Since 2023, the China Meteorological Administration has collaborated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs to jointly promote pilot work for the survey and zoning. During the pilot period, a total of 673 counties in 104 cities across 19 provinces (autonomous regions, and municipalities) completed the agricultural climate resource survey, 615 counties conducted agricultural production situation surveys, and 1,060 counties in 186 cities completed pilot crop climate zoning, initially forming a work pattern of “hundred cities surveyed and thousand counties zoned,” laying a solid foundation for the comprehensive launch of related work.
