Iran Prepares Hormuz Law, Legalizing Fees for Every Passing Vessel
The Iranian government is officially drafting a strategic legislation titled Hormuz Law, designed to establish a formal (toll system) in the Strait of Hormuz. According to initial details, this law will introduce navigation fees and pollution levies for every commercial vessel crossing this vital waterway. This move is seen as Iran's concrete effort to formalize long-term control over one of the world's most strategic shipping routes.
In addition to toll charges, the draft legislation also includes the creation of a regional fund funded by the collected fees. This policy has immediately provoked strong reactions from the international community, especially the United States, which explicitly called the imposition of fees in the Strait of Hormuz illegal and unacceptable. The situation in this global energy corridor is further complicated by the new legal framework that Iran plans to implement soon.
Amid rising tensions over the Hormuz Law, military forces in the region are also increasing as the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli arrives in the Middle East. According to CNN, the ship carries about 3,500 sailors and Marine personnel amid media reports that the United States is preparing for possible ground operations. The presence of this U.S. amphibious force marks a serious escalation in response to Iran's maneuvers to commercialize this international shipping lane.
Similarly, if there is good news, it can reverse the trend.
