Wall Street average bonuses rise to a historic high of nearly $250,000
Gelonghui, March 29 | After a prosperous year for major investment banks in the United States, Wall Street’s average bonus has risen to a historic high of nearly $250,000. The latest estimate from New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli shows that the average bonus for securities industry employees in New York City in 2025 is $246,900, an increase of 6% year-on-year. However, this figure, which is crucial for the city’s tax revenue, falls short of expectations. The fiscal plan for New York City’s 2026 fiscal year had predicted a bonus increase of 15%. Bonuses for Wall Street bankers and traders are typically distributed between December and March of the following year. This income is a significant component of the total compensation for the highest-paying industry in New York City: according to DiNapoli, the average total compensation for securities industry employees in 2024 is $505,677, with bonuses accounting for nearly half.
