Reports from Xinhua’s correspondents in New York, Washington, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and other places: Protest and demonstration activities broke out across many parts of the United States on the 28th. Millions of people poured into the streets, expressing dissatisfaction with a series of policies by the Trump administration, including immigration enforcement, and calling for an end to military strikes against Iran.

The protest was themed “No Kings.” Organizers estimated that more than 3,100 protest events would be held nationwide that day, covering 50 states, as well as major cities such as Washington, New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Boston. This is the third round of the nationwide “No Kings” protest demonstrations in the United States, following June and October 2025. Media estimates put the number of participants at 9 million.

In New York, the protest activities covered all five boroughs. Around 2:00 p.m., a reporter saw that on Seventh Avenue in Manhattan, protesters held up placards and shouted slogans such as “No Kings,” “No to Immigration and Customs Enforcement,” and “No to war.” The length of the marching procession extended for more than 10 blocks. On the day, the New York Police Department deployed several thousand police officers to maintain public order.

Protester Janet told a reporter, “I don’t like the way this country treats immigrants. And we absolutely don’t want to get dragged into a war in the Middle East.”

“Everything about the situation at home and abroad in the United States is terrible! The Trump administration has launched a war toward the outside that is neither just nor necessary. At home, there is a shortage of funding for important public services, and the cost of living keeps rising. All of this is harming the interests of the people,” said Carolyn Riel, a resident of New York City.

In the nation’s capital, in Washington, a march made up of more than a thousand protesters crossed the Arlington Memorial Bridge and gathered in front of the Lincoln Memorial. People held banners reading “Fight for Democracy,” “Shut Down Immigration and Customs Enforcement,” and other messages, shouted slogans, gave speeches, and called for accountability for the responsibility for going to war against Iran. Outside the White House fence, in President’s Park and near the Washington Monument, many protesters also gathered.

An angry protester in his 50s said, “Once again, we’re going to be trapped in the Middle East, with nowhere to go.”

On the West Coast, in San Francisco, thousands of people took to the streets to protest the Trump administration’s harsh immigration policies and call for an end to the war between the United States, Israel, and Iran.

About 100,000 people in Los Angeles held protest activities in downtown. Protesters waved U.S. flags and held up placards to criticize the Trump administration’s current actions on immigration policy, economic policy, foreign policy, and the illegal expansion of executive authority. At an interview with a reporter, Billy Brown, a 59-year-old protester, said, “Once, this was a country that all of us were proud of. But now, we’ve become a laughingstock around the world.”

After the protest activities ended in the evening, many people were still gathered around the Metropolitan Detention Center not far from the rally site. The police issued dispersal orders, deployed mounted police, and used batons, tear gas, and pepper spray to disperse the crowd. Local media reported that dozens of people had already been arrested and many were injured.

Also, according to a report by Xinhua News Agency, a poll recently released by the U.S. Fox News Channel showed that nearly two-thirds of surveyed U.S. voters are dissatisfied with President Donald Trump’s performance in office, with a dissatisfaction rate that is the highest among his two terms.

The results of the poll conducted by this conservative media outlet among 1,001 registered voters showed that the dissatisfaction rate with Trump’s performance in office among respondents was 59%, up 8 percentage points from a year earlier. This is not only the highest since the start of his second term, but also higher than the record for his first term. The satisfaction rate fell from 49% a year earlier to 41%. The poll randomly selected respondents from the U.S. voter registration rolls.

Among supporters of the Republican Party, the satisfaction rate for Trump was 84%, down 8 percentage points from the same period last year— the lowest since the start of his second term. His dissatisfaction rates among Democratic voters and independent voters reached 95% and 75%, respectively.

The poll showed that Trump’s ratings on various issues were generally poor. The dissatisfaction rates were significantly higher than the satisfaction rates on healthcare, immigration, foreign policy, taxes, and the issue of Iran. The public’s evaluation of his handling of inflation was the worst: only 28% of respondents said they approved, down 7 percentage points from January, and down 12 percentage points compared with a year earlier.

The state of the U.S. economy became the root cause of public dissatisfaction. The approval rating for Trump’s performance on economic matters also hit a new low, at just 34%, down 6 and 9 percentage points from January and from a year earlier, respectively. Seventy-five percent of respondents said the current U.S. economic situation is bad, and nearly half said their personal finances are getting worse. Eighty-six percent of respondents are worried about inflation and high prices, with 57% saying they are extremely concerned.

Many respondents believe that the U.S. economy will not improve in the short term. Fifty-three percent expect the U.S. economic situation to worsen further over the coming year, while only 25% hold the opposite view.
