[Iran Crisis] Iran War Escalation Pushes Oil Prices Up, Japan and South Korea Stock Markets Experience "Black Monday" Again

Middle East tensions escalate, with Iran-backed Yemeni Houthi forces joining the conflict over the weekend, along with more U.S. troops arriving in the region, raising market concerns about the prolonged nature of the conflict. Oil prices surge, and the stock markets in Japan and South Korea experience another “Black Monday.”

The Nikkei 225 index in Japan fell by as much as 4% in the early session.

The KOSPI index in South Korea dropped over 5%, led by declines in chip manufacturers, with Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Hyundai Motors all falling more than 4%, contributing the most to the index’s decline. The KOSDAQ index for small-cap stocks in South Korea also fell by 4%.
