German President Steinmeier stated on the 24th that since U.S. President Trump began his second term, the rift in transatlantic relations has deepened. Trust in American great power politics has been lost among allies and across the globe. Steinmeier made these remarks during a commemorative event at the German Foreign Office, asserting that the military strikes by the U.S. and Israel against Iran undoubtedly violate international law and represent a fatal political error. If the goal was to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, then this military action could have been avoided and was unnecessary. Steinmeier emphasized that the importance of international law as a framework for order, a rulebook, and a source of legitimacy has not diminished for Germany and Europe. In transatlantic relations, Germany must free itself from dependencies that make it vulnerable. (Xinhua)
