Multiple impoverished students at the university were disciplined for part-time delivery jobs. Latest update: The disciplinary process was halted and no actual punishment was imposed.
Ask AI · Is the school’s regulation reasonable for punishing a student from a low-income background for delivering takeout?
Recently, a student from Chongqing Institute of Technology, Lin (pseudonym), stated that due to working part-time delivering takeout to students on campus, he received a disciplinary notice from the school, and then the disciplinary process was halted by the school.
A staff member from the involved school responded that they have communicated with the student in question, and the disciplinary process has been suspended, with no actual punishment imposed, and the matter has been resolved satisfactorily.
Zhao Liangshan, a senior partner at Shaanxi Hengda Law Firm, analyzed that students have the legitimate right to participate in social practice and work-study programs, and schools cannot arbitrarily restrict students’ labor rights with vague blanket clauses. The initiation, suspension, or termination of the school’s disciplinary process lacks clear statutory basis and written explanation.
According to Modern Express, Lin, a freshman at Chongqing Institute of Technology, stated that she started working part-time delivering takeout on campus in January this year, and when the school discovered it for the first time, she was asked to write a guarantee letter. Recently, when she was discovered again, she was issued a disciplinary notification. Currently, there are more than ten students in similar situations at the school who are working part-time delivering takeout on and off campus to supplement their living expenses, including several low-income students.
