Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences: All-solid-state batteries may take at least another 5 years

Recently, several battery companies and automakers have announced progress in all-solid-state battery research and development as well as production timelines. Ouyang Minggao, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and vice chairman of the China Electric Vehicle 100 People’s Conference, stated at the 2026 China EV Conference Research Institute Expert Media Exchange, “Many people are waiting for solid-state batteries, but I think there's no need to wait. Today's electric vehicles are already very good.” He mentioned that all-solid-state batteries are expected to be installed in vehicles starting in 2027, but it may take another five to ten years for them to reach scale and account for 1% of the market share.
