Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences: All-solid-state batteries may take at least another 5 years

Recently, multiple battery companies and automakers have successively announced progress in the research and development of all-solid-state batteries and their mass production schedules. Ouyang Minggao, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and vice chairman of the China Electric Vehicle 100 Forum, stated at the 2026 annual media exchange conference of the China Vehicle 100 Research Institute, “Many people are waiting for all-solid-state batteries, but I think there is no need to wait; current electric vehicles are already very good.” He indicated that all-solid-state batteries are expected to begin being installed in vehicles in 2027, but it may take another five to ten years for them to reach scale and account for 1% of the market share.
