Solar panels as thin as paper can generate electricity when贴在窗户上, and even wear them to charge your phone… Perovskite batteries are bringing such sci-fi scenes closer to us. Recently, Wenzhou National University Science and Technology Park incubated enterprise Huadao Optoelectronics Technology (Wenzhou) Co., Ltd. made a significant breakthrough in this field. Their independently developed single-junction perovskite solar cell has been authorized by the National Photovoltaic Industry Measurement Testing Center (NPVM), achieving a photoelectric conversion efficiency of up to 27.98% under standard sunlight, setting a new world record. This achievement marks the first time that perovskite photovoltaic technology has comprehensively surpassed all types of single-crystal silicon solar cells in laboratory efficiency, opening new space for the development of the next generation of photovoltaics.

Perovskite solar cells are a new type of battery that uses special materials (perovskite) to capture sunlight and convert it into electrical energy. Compared to traditional solar photovoltaics, perovskite batteries are cheaper and more flexible in processing, particularly excelling in their low-light power generation performance, effectively filling the gap where the efficiency of traditional crystalline silicon batteries drops sharply in low-light scenarios. However, the biggest bottleneck for a long time has been that the internal interface of the battery is like a bumpy road, which not only hinders smooth current flow but also makes the battery prone to “short lifespan.”

In response, Huadao Optoelectronics came up with a clever solution, designing a three-layer protection from the inside out: developing more stable formulations and better packaging materials; designing a multilayer “protective shell” in the battery structure to block moisture and oxygen; actively participating in formulating industry testing standards, using solid and repeatable data to earn long-term market trust. “The key to this breakthrough is our innovation in controlling the crystallization quality and interface defects of perovskite films. Simply put, by improving some internal ‘minor flaws’ during the manufacturing of this new material film, we allow electric energy to flow more smoothly inside, reducing waste, thus generating more electricity,” said Guan Hao, a research and development engineer at Huadao Optoelectronics. Currently, the company’s batteries are at the international leading level in terms of open-circuit voltage, fill factor, and other core parameters.

As a “light cavalry” in “next-generation photovoltaic technology,” perovskite batteries have broad application prospects, so Huadao Optoelectronics has already made forward-looking layouts in flexible perovskite batteries. “We are not only developing rigid rooftop batteries but also researching bendable ‘flexible’ perovskite batteries, which can be applied in consumer electronic products, IoT devices, and wearable devices like clothes and backpacks, and we are working with partners to develop specific products,” Guan Hao introduced. These innovative applications are expected to bring photovoltaics from traditional power stations to urban buildings, mobile devices, and deep space, allowing solar power generation to move from “roof exclusive” to “everything can be贴,” transforming rays of sunlight into clean energy for warm daily life.
