On March 30, The New York Times reported that with the arrival of 2,500 Marine Corps members and an additional 2,500 Navy personnel, the number of U.S. troops in the Middle East has surpassed 50,000, approximately 10,000 more than usual. While it remains unclear what specific missions the Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit will undertake, U.S. officials indicated that Trump is considering launching a larger offensive, such as attempting to seize an island or other land, as part of his actions to open the Strait of Hormuz.
