Xinhua News Agency, Washington, March 26 - The Washington Post reported on the 26th, citing multiple sources, that as the United States consumes large amounts of ammunition in the conflict with Iran, the U.S. Department of Defense is considering transferring weapons originally intended for Ukraine to the Middle East.

The report stated: “Although the Department of Defense has not yet made a final decision on the transfer of weapons, this change highlights the increasingly difficult trade-offs the U.S. must make between different demands to sustain the war with Iran.”

Sources told the media that the weapons the U.S. may transfer include air defense intercept missiles, which Ukraine ordered through a NATO program. The U.S. military has previously allocated such weapons from Europe and East Asia to the Middle East.

The report cited two European diplomats as saying that since the U.S. launched military actions against Iran, the speed at which U.S. ammunition is being consumed has raised concerns among European countries about the impact on their orders, thereby affecting the delivery of weapons to Ukraine.

The report also quoted Ukraine’s ambassador to the U.S., Stefanihina, as saying that Ukraine continues to inform its partners of its needs, including air defense needs, but also understands that there is “a considerable phase of uncertainty” in the war.
